Children's author Ross Montgomery's final visit to our school this year was an enjoyable one for Key Stage One on Monday.  He read one of his picture books, Space Tortoise, to the phase, followed by workshops across the day.  The children all thoroughly enjoyed it.  At the end of the day, some lucky children who bought a book received a signed copy from Ross himself!  It has been such a pleasure to have Ross as our Patron of Reading this year and we look forward to seeing him again soon....

To celebrate the launch of Essendine's brand new Reading Den and the FIFA Women's World Cup, we have started reading a live read story written by Tom Palmer. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:00pm, we are reading a chapter from “Rocky and The Rovers“, which is being written as the World Cup progresses. Each new chapter is released the morning of the reading session, and the story uses real-life events and scores from the World Cup to drive the narrative.

Essendine Primary School had its grand opening of the new Reading Den on the first day of this term.  The new Lord Mayor arrived to cut the ribbon and officially open the room, along with three local Maida Vale councillors who helped to support the redesign project through ward funding.  As well as these important guests, children's author Ross Montgomery, who has been closely linked with our school through the charity Patron of Reading, did an exclusive Q&A and book reading with 18 lucky reader...

Science week has been a huge success!  It was wonderful to see so many parents getting involved in their childrens' learning this week and coming along to lessons.  A huge thank you must go to teachers and our Science Leader, My Seymour, for organising the many activities that the children have thoroughly enjoyed.

World Book Day took place yesterday and everyone had a fun-filled day. At different parts of the day, when the bell rang, children had to ‘drop everything and read.’  They thoroughly enjoyed being told to stop and read the book that they had at their table.  In the afternoon, we had a reading buddy session.  Year 6 children read with Year 2 children; Year 1 children read with Year 5 and Reception pupils read with Year 4 pupils. It was obvious that they enjoyed this session. As this year’s theme...

Year 6 pupils went on a trip this week to Mile End Ragged School in East London.  During the trip, they got to experience what life would have been like for a poor child who had the opportunity to go to school. Children learnt about how strict teachers had to be in the classroom, and some were a little bit nervous at first. The   children learnt lots and thoroughly benefited from being in an authentic Victorian classroom.

On Friday the 18th of January Year 4 went to Forest School for the third time this year. We made wooden badges and had to drill our own holes with hand drills before decorating. Mawaddah said “Making the hole was the hardest but I was resilient and finally did it!”  We also used nature from the area to create our own natural art. Finally we gathered around the fire circle for hot chocolate and popcorn, yummy! Everyone had a great time.

Well done to our Year 5/6 choir who performed at Paddington Rec this week. They sang beautifully and represented our school proudly. A big thank you to Mr Leung for coordinating this and preparing our students so well. A big thank you to Mr Killick, Mr Clark, Sally and Jamie for   accompanying the children and supporting the evening.

Well done to the nine children who took part in the after school Squash club at Paddington Sports Club. They were Mayssa, Ilyas, Faris, Laiba, Farhan, Arsalaan, Omer, Mowaddah and Maida. During the eight week programme, the children learnt the basics of the sport, and also played matches by the last couple of sessions. Daniel, the general manager of the club, was delighted with the energy, enthusiasm and behaviour of the group. Also, we are delighted to reveal that three of the children have bee...
