Ross Montgomery
Children's author Ross Montgomery's final visit to our school this year was an enjoyable one for Key Stage One on Monday. He read one of his picture books, Space Tortoise, to the phase, followed by workshops across the day. The children all thoroughly enjoyed it. At the end of the day, some lucky children who bought a book received a signed copy from Ross himself! It has been such a pleasure to have Ross as our Patron of Reading this year and we look forward to seeing him

Reading Den
To celebrate the launch of Essendine's brand new Reading Den and the FIFA Women's World Cup, we have started reading a live read story written by Tom Palmer. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:00pm, we are reading a chapter from “Rocky and The Rovers“, which is being written as the World Cup progresses. Each new chapter is released the morning of the reading session, and the story uses real-life events and scores from the World Cup to drive the narrative. #EVENT

Reading Den
Essendine Primary School had its grand opening of the new Reading Den on the first day of this term. The new Lord Mayor arrived to cut the ribbon and officially open the room, along with three local Maida Vale councillors who helped to support the redesign project through ward funding. As well as these important guests, children's author Ross Montgomery, who has been closely linked with our school through the charity Patron of Reading, did an exclusive Q&A and book reading

Science Week
Science week has been a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many parents getting involved in their childrens' learning this week and coming along to lessons. A huge thank you must go to teachers and our Science Leader, My Seymour, for organising the many activities that the children have thoroughly enjoyed. #EVENT

World Book Day
World Book Day took place yesterday and everyone had a fun-filled day. At different parts of the day, when the bell rang, children had to ‘drop everything and read.’ They thoroughly enjoyed being told to stop and read the book that they had at their table. In the afternoon, we had a reading buddy session. Year 6 children read with Year 2 children; Year 1 children read with Year 5 and Reception pupils read with Year 4 pupils. It was obvious that they enjoyed this session. A

Abi Elphinstone - Author Visit
We were very lucky to have Abi Elphinstone visit us this week to launch her new book 'Sky Song'. Her energy and enthusiasm inspired both pupils and teachers. Abi spoke about her experience as a writer and offered children these essential tips: Carry a notepad with you everywhere, never be afraid of failure and live life filled with adventure. We hope to see Abi again soon at Essendine! #EVENT

World War One
This term's theme, World War One, has produced some wonderful learning across the whole school. Children have been engaged in the topic and have learnt a lot about the events of the war and gained a great deal of empathy towards the soldiers. As you may have seen, our displays have mirrored our learning and below are some examples. #EVENT

Waterstone’s visit for World Book Day Winnrers
Last Friday, the lucky World Book Day winners went to Waterstone’s to select a free book of their choice. Some children, also got another book with their £1 token!
