Lots of exciting things happened at Essendine Primary to celebrate World Book Day. Polly Faber, the author, came to visit KS1 in the morning and read her books to the children and talked about how she writes stories and the importance of reading. Around the school, many children and staff dressed up as their favourite book character. There was a ‘Round Robin Reading Challenge,’ where the teachers each spent five minutes in each class to read the same book to the children. In KS1 the teachers read ‘The Three Wolves and the Big Bad Pig,’ and in KS2, the teachers read ‘You’re a bad man, Mr Gum.’ Year 6 children read with Year 3 children in the afternoon, which the children enjoyed very much. Also, towards the end of the day, some classes also took part in The Big Book Quiz, which was fun (and rather difficult.) It was a brilliant day, and it was lovely to see how passionate the children are about reading.
