World Book Day took place yesterday and everyone had a fun-filled day. At different parts of the day, when the bell rang, children had to ‘drop everything and read.’ They thoroughly enjoyed being told to stop and read the book that they had at their table. In the afternoon, we had a reading buddy session. Year 6 children read with Year 2 children; Year 1 children read with Year 5 and Reception pupils read with Year 4 pupils. It was obvious that they enjoyed this session. As this year’s theme was ‘Share a Story,’ it was fantastic to see it in action. At the end of the day, we had a Storytime swap where teachers went to a different year group to read to the class. 16 reading ambassadors also went on a trip to Waterstones to pick their free World Book Day book with their token. Every child in the school was given a Book token at the end of the day on Thursday. WHSmith and Waterstones both stock these books until the end of March so please try and get a free book to read with your child. Finally, a big thank you to parents who supported their children in creating their costume – it was without doubt the best year yet for costume ideas!
